About Croydon

Croydon hasn’t seen expansion like we are currently experiencing since the 1960s. We’re already well underway with some £5bn of investment that will be completed over the next few years. New offices, new retail, and new homes will provide well-paid jobs and high-quality accommodation for our rapidly growing population.

Croydon is a naturally ambitious council – so we’re looking for inspirational leaders who share our passion for supporting business growth and responding to local needs.

Strong partnerships are the foundation for the future. That’s why we’re constantly looking forward. We need to find creative new ways of working together with other agencies and the private sector to deal with the financial challenges ahead.

Because with growth comes increased demand – but also huge opportunity.

Chances like this only come along once in a generation, and our task, and maybe yours, is to shape a positive future for Croydon’s residents and businesses alike.

About the Role

Do you believe in the power of an engaged and motivated workforce to change lives?

We’re looking for a passionate internal communications expert to help us engage with staff at all levels and across all departments of a large and complex council.

Following the results of our recent staff survey, we want colleagues to help shape the future of the organisation so we can be even more ambitious for Croydon and our residents. We need to position the organisation to do things differently so we are better able to deliver the right services to the right residents at the right time. Can you help?

You’ll be confident advising senior leaders, supervising more junior officers, drafting communication strategies and engaging with staff face to face. You’ll be familiar with the full range of communication channels available and keep up to date with new ideas and trends in the fields of employee engagement and change communications.

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic and self-motivated, with a proven track record working in a large, preferably public sector, organisation. You’ll enjoy finding creative solutions to meet our objectives and translating complex issues into engaging content that works across print and digital channels.

You should ideally possess a communications or marketing qualification and a good working knowledge of local government.

In return you will be joining a proactive, professional and supportive team positioned in the office of the chief executive at the heart of an ambitious council. No week will ever be the same - your work will be varied, interesting and challenging, with opportunities to use and develop your skills in all areas of communications.

Croydon Council provide excellent benefits for its staff, including a brilliant Local Government Pension Scheme, work flexibility, generous leave entitlement of 29 plus days per year and numerous staff discounts.

Closing date: Thursday 26 April (midnight)

Interviews will be held during the weeks commencing the 30 April and 7 May 2018.

Equal Opportunities & Safeguarding

Croydon Council is an inclusive employer and welcomes applications from all sections of the community. We will be pleased to consider applications from candidates seeking flexible working arrangements.

As users of the disability confident scheme, we guarantee to interview all disabled applicants who meet the minimum criteria for the advertised role.
