About Croydon

Croydon hasn’t seen expansion like we are currently experiencing since the 1960s. We’re already well underway with some £5bn of investment that will be completed over the next few years. New offices, new retail, and new homes will provide well-paid jobs and high-quality accommodation for our rapidly growing population.

Croydon is a naturally ambitious council – so we’re looking for inspirational leaders who share our passion for supporting business growth and responding to local needs.

Strong partnerships are the foundation for the future. That’s why we’re constantly looking forward. We need to find creative new ways of working together with other agencies and the private sector to deal with the financial challenges ahead.

Because with growth comes increased demand – but also huge opportunity.

Chances like this only come along once in a generation, and our task, and maybe yours, is to shape a positive future for Croydon’s residents and businesses alike.

About the role

We are looking to appoint 1 permanent CCTV & Intelligence Officer to join the team at Strand House, Thornton Heath.

The Control Room utilises state of the art control equipment and monitors cameras in a number of areas around the borough, from Norbury in the North to Coulsdon in the South.

The team are also responsible for providing the out of hours contact centre for the Council; Services include Emergency Social Work, Fostering Services, Medical Equipment Repairs, Environmental Health, Dangerous Structures, Highways Maintenance and assisting in any Civil Emergency that may arise.

To supplement the Councils Neighbourhood Safety and Environmental Enforcement Teams, the Control Room is being restructured to become the Intelligence Hub where information is received and passed to the relevant team to investigate. In addition to this the Control Room will have access to a number of Council systems to provide live intelligence to officers in the field.

We work very closely with the Police and other agencies on a day to day basis and also run a Town Centre Radio system for participating Stores, Pubs and Night Clubs in the borough.

Applicants need to be well organised, calm and be able to work in a sometimes charged atmosphere, have excellent communication and problem solving skills and work well in a team and have a get things done attitude!

The Control Room is open 24 hours a day 365 days a year. Applicants will be shift working and an example shift pattern has been attached.

In return you will be joining a capable, professional, supportive team, with induction, training and development opportunities.

Croydon Council provide excellent benefits for its staff, including a brilliant Local Government Pension Scheme, work flexibility, generous leave entitlement of 29 plus days per year and numerous staff discounts.

Closing date: 25/11/2018 (midnight)

Interviews will be held during the week commencing the 03/12/2018.
